Sam Smith – Centre Manager

I am a mother of two beautiful children, Ethan and Opal. I started my career in ECE as a parent help, when my daughter attended Apples in the infant room. I enjoyed it so much I decided to train and now have my Bachelor of Education which I completed in 2016. I believe in play-based learning and using open ended resource. I love being with the children, we learn so much from these little individuals.

Michele Harris – Business Manager

I believe play stimulates children’s cognitive social and emotional development. I will show them that I do honor their play and do value them as individuals. I will respect each child’s “self-identity.” I will ensure that I give positive evaluation of the children’s learning therefore fostering their self-efficacy, endeavoring to increase their thirst for knowledge. Above all I will listen to the children’s voices.

Kristie Harris – Curriculum Coordinator

I have been working in the education sector since 2001. My experiences includes working with little ones from birth to school age. My teaching is strongly guided by the philosophies of RIE, Forest school, Reggio Emilia , and by our own NZ ECE curriculum, Te Whāriki.

My aspiration for all children is that they are given the opportunity to have purpose to their learning, a real challenge that has a meaningful outcome. To be innovators of change, to become confident, creative and compassionate individuals. I strive to provide meaningful experiences that will encourage children to understand themselves more deeply through the natural world around them.

Belinda Dean – Administration/Reception

Hi, my name is Belinda Dean and I live in Orewa. I have three beautiful daughters and a grandaughter. I work in Reception/Administration. I strive to model respect, patience and care for children and adults I come in contact with. I believe children have the right to have their needs met and receive the proper education while in the care of their caregivers.

Tina Blackburn – Cook

I have a daughter Maddison who is in college and Misha my dog.  I have worked in the food industry for over 25 years and I love making healthy food for the children and trying new recipes.


Sam Smith – Preschool Head Teacher

While I am also the Manager of the centre I am also a teacher on the floor and love spending time with the children and working alongside the awesome team of teachers that we have here at apples.

Fiona Wallis – Preschool Teacher

Hi, my name is Fiona Wallis, I arrived in New Zealand in 2007 from the UK with my husband, son and daughter. Since 2000 I have been working with children both in primary and preschool education.

My philosophy is based on nurturing and caring, making each child feel special and important. I like to encourage children and feel privileged to be part of their preschool journey. I look forward to meeting you all and working with your children.

Rachel Fowler – Preschool Teacher

Hello. My name is Rachel. I have a beautiful daughter, Lilly-Belle who attends Apples. After 14 years hairdressing, I have decided to pursue a career in Early Childhood teaching and will be qualified by 2020 This is something I have always been very interested in and passionate about. I love watching children grow and learn through play and interacting with one another, being able to share this journey with you is very exciting and rewarding.


Trish Wadham – Toddler Teacher

Hello, my name is Trish. I am a qualified and registered early childhood teacher. I love working with children and supporting their learning journey of self-discovery. my approach to teaching is to provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment for the children. i enjoy working alongside children, their families and staff members. It is a privilege to be here at Apples.

Candy Morgan – Toddler Teacher

My personal Philosophy is about building relationships with children, built on trust and respect. I believe in child-led learning and discovery with support from the Teacher; Enabling children to learn at their own pace and encouraged to make their own choices and decisions as they gain more knowledge; Growing confident and competent children.

Deb Langwell – Toddler Teacher

Hello, my name is Deb. I have three beautiful children of my own and I have been a home-based educator for 14 years. I enjoy working with children and watching them grow and learn. I’m now working towards my Bachelor of Teaching Degree and will be qualified in 2021.

Alison Abbey- Toddler Teacher

Hi everyone, I am Alison and I am married to Paul and have 3 grownup children. I have spent the last ten years working on and off with children. I was a teacher aide at Stella Maris and a Nanny. I love working with the children building relations with them and their families. I enjoy listening to their conversations with their peers and having conversations with them and watching them play and learn new skills. The children learn through play and we offer help and guidance when asked for or if we see it’s needed. I also feel it is very important for the children to feel safe and valued and most of all having fun.


Harpreet Sandhu – Babies Head Teacher

Kia Ora, my name is Harpreet.

I did my Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education in 2014. I have two beautiful daughters. Originally, I am from India and moved to New Zealand in 2011. I started working at Apples in the babies rooms as a student teacher. I love my job as I love forming caring and loving relationships with children. I believe that a child be taught with love and understanding, children should be valued and treated with respect.

Paula Davison – Infant Teacher

Hi, my name is Paula and I have a wonderful husband and 3 fantastic adult children. I have lived on the Hibiscus Coast for most of my life and as a family we have been involved with community groups like   Silverdale Rugby Club and Red Beach Surf Life Saving.
I have been working with children for 15+ years in different settings including Home Based Care and as a Teacher Aid at Red Beach School working with children with special needs. I have worked at Apples since April 2017 and I love the children and the parents, and the staff are awesome and supportive to work alongside.
My passion is working with the little-little babies and building relationships with them  and watching them grow and develop.

Melissa Adams – Infant Teacher

Kia Ora I’m Mel, I have been part of the Apples whanau since 2012. I have a level 5 certificate in Nanny Education, and I am looking forward to starting my studies towards my degree in the New Year. I am very creative and love to create open ended learning opportunities for children to learn and express themselves. I love being a part of the Apples Whanau and enjoy watching our capable little people grow and learn.

Jennifer Ramlose – Infant Teacher

Hi, my name is Jennifer (Jen). I have worked with children for over four years. I have a passion for working for young children. I love watching children grown from babies right through to preschool. I have lived on the Coast for nearly five years and love being able to walk down to the beach. In 2013 I completed Level 5 Nanny Certificate. In the near future I wish to graduate with my Bachelors in ECE and become fully registered teacher.
